While I've gotten used to the daily implications from drug companies that there might be something wrong with me, depression, acid reflux, restless leg syndrome, I was not prepared for a campaign targeting Bipolar disorders (previously referred to as manic-depressive). .
Cold medicine risky for babies, toddlers
ATLANTA, Ga. -- More than 1,500 toddlers and babies wound up in emergency rooms over a two-year period and three died because of bad reactions to cold or cough medicine, federal health officials reported Thursday.The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned parents not to give common over-the-counter cold remedies to children under 2 years old without consulting a doctor.The deaths of three infants 6 months or younger in 2005 led to an investigation that showed the children all had high levels of the nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine, up to 14 times the amount recommended for children ages 2 to 12. The study found 1,519 ER cases from 2004 and 2005 involving young children and cold medicine.The CDC said it's not known how much cold or cough medicine can cause illness or death in children under 2 years old, but there are no approved dosing recommendations by the U.S.
Durel seeks board's opinion on land deal
City-Parish President Joey Durel is seeking an advisory opinion from the Louisiana State Ethics Commission about a piece of property he intends to sell to River Ranch developer Robert Daigle. Concern about the sale of the property arose after a story published in The Times of Acadiana revealed that the business arrangement with Daigle could possibly be unethical. .

The free-agent market is anorexic, but even if it weren't, and even if the Eagles actually were inclined to gobble up veterans, which they're not, they don't have their usual 1,000 acres of salary-cap space. After signing several young players to long-term extensions in 2006, they will head into free agency less than $13 million under the projected $109 million cap.
