| Yuba, Rocha triumph!
Unbeaten WBC#20 bantam Nestor Rocha (17-0, 5 KOs), 120, had a tough time and barely earned a debatable split decision (96-95 twice and 94-96) over OPBF#3 ranked Thai national 118-pound champ Kaonah Khlongphajon (17-13-1, 13 KOs), 119.5, over ten heats on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. It was a very hot affair with each mixing it up all the way. Rocha, a taller prospect handled by Rudy Hernandez, made a good start, but Kaonah turned the tide with his persistent body attack, which visibly paid off. Kaonah showed his best in the sixth, when, however, he was penalized a point for having hit Rocha having slipped down onto the deck. The penalty eventually carried a slight margin to Rocha, who fought well despite a short notice. Kaonah showed his improvement since his technical draw with world rated Manabu Fukushima here last June.
Clues to the cause of difficulty with swallowing in children
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) is disease that was first described in children only 20 years ago, but has shown a rising incidence in both children and adults. An inflammatory condition of the esophagus, its symptoms including vomiting, heartburn and difficulty in swallowing. In findings published on line January 10, 2007 in the Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine and Rady Children's Hospital and Health Center, San Diego show that the disease causes many of the same kinds of tissue changes seen in pediatric asthma. Their research may lead to new drug targets for EE, which appears to be allergy-driven in some patients. The esophagus is the soft tube-like portion of the digestive tract that leads from the back of the mouth to the stomach.

Don't short-change other conditions during cancer care
Q: My dad was just diagnosed with cancer in addition to a heart condition and diabetes. Should cancer treatments now be his major focus for medical care? A: Like your father, many others who are older face other diseases when they are diagnosed with cancer. Experts estimate that more than half of patients diagnosed with cancer are dealing with another chronic condition such as hypertension, osteoporosis, lung disease, heart conditions and diabetes. In medical lingo, these secondary illnesses are tagged as comorbid, meaning they can form a type of partnership, each contributing toward poorer survival rates. Six out of 10 cancer cases are among those 65 years old or older, who often contend with two and more chronic conditions. As a result, this comorbidity factor will continue to run high among the elderly.
