| Report Finds Over-the-Counter Drug for Heartburn, Acid Reflux as ...
WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A widely available nonprescription drug -- Prilosec OTC -- is as effective a treatment for heartburn and acid reflux disease as prescription drugs costing almost 10 times more, according to an analysis from Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs, a public education project of Consumers Union. "Many people with heartburn and acid reflux could save $1,000 to $2,000 a year by taking an over-the-counter drug that's just as effective as high-priced prescription drugs," said Gail Shearer, director of the Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs project. "These are dramatic savings, and illustrate why consumers should talk to their doctors about identifying effective, lower-cost medicines," Shearer added. The over-the-counter drug Prilosec costs $19 to $26 a month on average nationwide, and can be even cheaper at large discount stores.
Thanks for bringing me back to life
A Welsh boatbuilder has thanked two paramedics who flew by air ambulance and used a new wonder drug to bring him back from the dead after his heart stopped. Grandfather Mike Webber, 57, of Porthmadog, thought the heart attack that almost killed him was indigestion caused by a burger gulped down at a pub lunch. But Mike owes his life to the speed and skill of Welsh Ambulance Service paramedics, Ian Binnington and Meurig McMillan, who were manning the North Wales Air Ambulance. Paramedic Team Leader Ian Binnington and Paramedic Meurig McMillan flw to the scene and Ian who was the attendant on the day disembarked from the aircraft and went to the ambulance to meet the crew and assess the patient. Michael was assessed in the back of the ambulance and Ian decided he fitted the criteria for Thrombolysis.
Utah congressmen hopeful about State of the Union goals
WASHINGTON It was a toned-down State of the Union address Tuesday night, Utah's congressional delegation said, as President Bush laid out plans for health care, reduction of gasoline consumption and the war in Iraq. Bush's sixth State of the Union and first to a Democratic Congress offered new policies as he asked for support from the new leadership in Congress during the 49-minute speech. The early part of the speech focused on domestic policies, but Bush continued his call for additional troops in Iraq, asking lawmakers to "give it a chance" as the country moves on with a new strategy in the Middle East. "We went into this largely united in our assumptions and in our convictions," Bush said of the Iraq war.
